Weddings, FREE…publicity

We absolutely love when we get to do a 3D printed wedding cake topper. Truly our favorite and a specialty of ours.

The cake toppers take more precision, more design and naturally more time. The outcome is stunning.

Beyond the ceremony, the wedding dress gets tucked away, flowers turn brown, the moment is gone but we capture them for a lifetime.  A 3D printed wedding cake topper saves those items for you to display, look at, hold and cherish.

How it is made

There are a few options to initiate the creation of a 3D printed wedding cake topper. We also take into consideration religious beliefs, keeping the bride and groom separate while perform our work. Primarily a 3D printed wedding cake topper can be created by 3DTransformations performing a 3D scan or sending in specific photos of each person or by submitting a video of each person.

3D Scan

How does one go from real life to a digital 3D model? By a 3D scan. This is the easiest method for us and least expensive method of all the options for the couple. We don’t ask couples to get all dressed up just for us (although the option is there). The appointment for 3DTransformations to meet with each person is set for the same day as their dress fitting, tux fitting, pre-wedding bridal photo shoot or other arrangements. We meet each person at their fitting or location of choice making it easier for everyone. When a date and location of the fitting or pre-wedding photos is set a coordination with respective vendors is made and we pop in. The process is discrete. We don’t come with big cameras or a lot of people. Our 3D scanner is handheld, connecting right to an iPad.

The 3D scan process involves a person standing in the position of the desired outcome 3D print, i.e…hand out for holding, carrying bouquet. We walk around the person and as we do, the scanner is doing its magic. Capturing details and automatically meshing the data into a 3D model. Multiple scans can be taken. This process is completed for each person. Each scan is completed in just a few minutes.

Photo to 3D model

You know all the photos people took the day someone said “Yes, to the dress”? Those are usually perfect to design a 3D model from too! A good photo submission includes photos all the way around the person and at least one close up of their face. See the photo guidelines here. Photos of all the details desired in the 3D print is preferred. After photos are submitted of each person then we get to create something amazing!

Surprising someone? We have had submissions where the bride surprises the groom with a 3D printed wedding cake topper. I mean, come on, for weddings this is icing on the cake (pun intended) for a guy (or techy) to have a 3D printed anything in the wedding! We accommodate surprises by having on hand standard 3D models where we adapt to the person to be surprised from submitted photos including face match. Photo submission is of a close up of the person face and any more pics than that is a bonus as it alleviates interpolation.

Video to 3D model

A video capture, 360 degrees around a person works to create a 3D printed wedding cake topper.  For us, the design time is increased but unlike photos we can see around the entire person in creating the 3D model.

Our favorite moments

Definately the moments when a giddy bride takes a picture with the 3D printed wedding cake topper as it arrives is our favorite moment!  The pleasures of meeting with the couple, designing and delivering are our lifes work but the excitement from the customer brings us happiness like no other.  We love forwarding expressions of happiness to others!
